Potential
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
in all your ways know him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Don’t be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
This will be healing for your body
and strengthening for your bones."-selection from Proverbs 3
This painting began as a study of what it looks like to be in the middle of something hard and unfinished. The messy, uncertain, scary middle. How is peace possible? What position should we take? What do we focus on?
What do we focus on?
That became the catalyst question. What you focus on is how you feel. Circle back to Proverbs 3--what happens when you are turned towards evil? Even under the guise of trying to understand, or trying to figure it out. We are still turned towards it. It makes us sick. It makes us peace-less.
What happens when we focus on God? Focus on the potential of what can be healed and made whole? --"This will be healing for your bodyand strengthening for your bones." You will have peace.
And so here we've landed. Not at the finish line, but rather still in the messy middle, but focused on the potential for what is possible in His power and time.
